A tourist’s guide to the historic Qutub Minar in Delhi
Built at the start of the 12th century by Qutab-Ud-Din-Aibak of the Delhi Sultanate, the Qutub Minar is a UNESCO World Heritage site today. • About the site: Being one of the best-known monuments in Delhi, the Qutub Minar has been a part of many Bollywood films. The design of the monument is believed to have been inspired by the Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan.
• When to visit: The Qutub Minar stays crowded with tourists almost throughout the year but it is wise to avoid the summer season due to the scorching heat and intense humidity. • Getting there: Due to the popularity of Qutub Minar, there are plenty of travel options to and from the site. Buses and cabs from all over the city head towards the site and there is a metro station nearby too.
• Helpful information: The monument allows visitors throughout the week and is open every day from morning to evening. Children who are below fifteen years of age can enter for free and the ticket prices for adults is Rs 30 for citizens and Rs 500 for foreigners.
